SUMMARY:Fruit Tree Adoption at Tulane
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to adopt a fruit tree\, free of charge\, as part of the Endless Orchard project with the artists Fallen Fruit? Pelican Bomb\, A Studio in the Woods\, and Newcomb Art Museum are partnering to bring artists Fallen Fruit to host a fruit tree adoption at Tulane. This is just one part of a larger project that includes planting a network of public fruit trees along the Bayou Bienvenue Wetland Triangle\, throughout the Lower 9th Ward\, and Pontchartrain Park in Gentilly.  \nThe goal of the project is to plant 300 publicly-accessible fruit trees for neighbors and passers-by to share throughout New Orleans. Any resident\, business owner\, church\, or community group is invited to participat. The fruit trees are free of charge\, but recipients must agree to plant the tree so that it can partially hang over a sidewalk or public thoroughfare. That way\, people passing by can access any ripe fruit within reach. The trees will be included on a map of publicly accessible fruit trees\, free for anyone to pick from\, throughout New Orleans. \nIf you would you like to participate in this call to action\, please go tohttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSexkou4Pjgk8ePfK-rHta19_0bgWEt5q3SGp6kk0ZBjlU3deA/viewform to fill out the Google form. \nFallen Fruit is working with the Lower 9th Ward Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development\, Movin’ for Life\, and the City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways to make sure this fruit is accessible\, convenient\, and free for all. This effort is part of “Fallen Fruit of New Orleans\,” a citywide project designed to provide the neighborhood with a shared resource (free fruit!) and to create space for collaboration and conversation. \nEMPIRE at Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University is part of “Fallen Fruit of New Orleans” a suite of site-specific projects taking place throughout New Orleans from June 2017 through June 2018\, commissioned and presented by Newcomb Art Museum\, A Studio in the Woods and Pelican Bomb. \nFallen Fruit is an art collaboration originally conceived in 2004 by David Burns\, Matias Viegener and Austin Young. Since 2013\, David and Austin have continued the collaborative work.  \n“Fallen Fruit of New Orleans” was initiated by Pelican Bomb in 2015.
