DESCRIPTION:Join the Newcomb Art Museum in celebrating Unfamiliar Again: Contemporary Women Abstractionists. The evening will begin with a public discussion in the Freeman Auditorium between museum director Monica Ramirez-Montagut and exhibition artists Amy Ellingson\, Anne Vieux\, and Brittany Nelson. Sculptor Dee Briggs\, whose Three Rings 6’ Diameter is currently installed in the Newcomb Pottery Garden in front of the Woldenberg Art Center\, will also join the conversation. \nA reception will immediately follow in the Woodward Way Breezeway. \nBoth events are free and open to the public. \nThe Newcomb Pottery Garden is dedicated in memory of Judith Henkin.

SUMMARY:Family Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Get creative with the whole family! \nThis Saturday\, all ages are invited to swing by the Newcomb Art Museum for a free family art workshop inspired by their latest exhibition\, Unfamiliar Again: Contemporary Women Abstractionists. The exhibition features work by women artists from across the United States as they explore new ways of approaching abstraction. \nFrom 11:30 am to 1 pm\, the museum will play host to a family-friendly workshop where budding artists of all-ages will have the opportunity to create their own abstract masterpieces using collage work\, colored pencils\, cut paper and more. Kids and parents alike are encouraged to engage with the exhibition through a movement based scavenger hunt where you get to be the art! Story time will feature books encouraging children that anyone who wants to be an artist\, can be an artist (with a little paint and a whole lot of imagination!) \nThis come-and-go workshop allows children and parents to explore the museum in a welcome and fun environment plus creates an opportunity for everyone\, no matter your level of experience\, the chance to create their own abstract masterpiece to be hung on the fridge or framed on the wall! \nFree and open to the public.
