Shown in conjunction with Mickalene Thomas: Waiting on a Prime-time Star, Cleopatra Jones tells of a federal super-agent (Tamara Dobson) who is a martial arts expert armed with intellect and a hot-rod sports car. The film follows her on the trail of drug kingpins, specifically the notorious “Mommy” (Shelley Winters). Of the period’s many blaxploitation films, Cleopatra Jones is notable for its black female protagonist action hero.
The film co-stars Esther Rolle (CBS sitcom “Good Times”) and Bernie Casey (“Never Say Never Again, Revenge of the Nerds 1-IV).
