Slow Art Saturday

April 6, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Slow Art Day is April 6!

This Saturday, museums around the world will come together to celebrate Slow Art Day – a global event with a simple mission: help people discover for themselves the joy of looking at and loving art. When people look slowly at a piece of art they make discoveries – and the most important discovery they make is that they can see and experience art without an expert or expertise! We invite you to take part in this day of appreciating art by joining us for any or all of the following activities from 11 am to 3 pm.

  • Blindfolded Drawing – Take part in a collaborative drawing exercise where one person describes an artwork to someone else who draws the artwork not by sight but by the description.
  • Sensory Tours – Led by museum staff use your sense of smell, taste, touch, and sound to explore artworks in the exhibition.
  • One Piece at a Time  Instead of trying to go through a whole gallery in ten minutes, pick just one piece and spend ten minutes observing it. Bring a friend (or make one at the museum) and have a discussion about the piece together after – see what kind of similar or different observations you both make!

Plus, enjoy 10% off all books from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday!

Please note: Saturday, April 6 is also Crawfest at Tulane so there will be no parking allowed on campus. The museum is an easy walk from the St. Charles streetcar line and there is plenty of street parking in the neighborhood. If you have any questions – please feel free to call 504.865.5328 or emailtfriel@tulane.edu.
