Paintings

The University’s collection of paintings includes a diverse array of subjects, artists, and styles. Portraiture is well represented with works by colonial-era painter José Francisco Salazar, Jean-Joseph Vaudechamp, Kentucky artist William Edward West, and Ohio-born Herman Gustave Herkomer. Also in the collection are two notable landscapes including a depiction of New Orleans’ bustling antebellum waterfront by French painter Hippolyte Sebron and a tranquil river scene by Barbizon artist Jean-Baptiste-Camile Corot.
