Family Day Material List
Below are the materials needed for each virtual lesson. We have tried to make the materials as accessible as possible, so items in Blue are used for more than one lesson, so you will only need to buy them once. Items with a * next to them can be found at art and craft supply stores (such as Mo’s Art Supply and Michael’s in New Orleans). All other items can easily be found at a variety of stores. Please email tfriel@tulane.edu if you can’t find certain items.

Watercolor or mixed media paper*
Black permanent marker OR a black crayon
Water soluble/Washable markers (any colors)*
Napkins for spills
A cup of water

A medium sized cardboard box
Paper (any kind of unlined paper)
Glue stick or white glue
Crayons, or colored pencils or markers*
Tape (masking or packing or painter’s)
A few pieces of scrap paper (can be newspaper or magazines)

Ages 8 – 12 with adults or supervised.
Materials Needed:
White cotton t-shirt or anything that is white and cotton.
Any brand acrylic paint of your favorite colors. Must be acrylic, but can be craft acrylic.*
Empty water bottles with caps, should be recyclable/disposable plastic water bottles. 1 for
each color used
Something to puncture a hole in the water bottle caps (a bamboo skewer is used in the video)
A large aluminum baking pan 9in. X 12in, or something around that size.
Kite string or rubber bands.
A metal rack (a dish rack or cookie rack works great)

A Lamp/socket (a clip lamp from a hardware store is used in the video)
Backdrop (Curtains, shower curtain, bed sheets, or a solid wall)
Camera phone
2 or more Small clamps or something to hold backdrop in place (spring clamps or “A” clamps
from a hardware store are used in the video)
Scissors
Bristol board or cardstock or thick poster board (any size from 8.5” x 11” or larger)*
